Where it all started.

I was born in Brisbane and always loved sport and writing, so decided it would be cool to combine both as a career! I did work experience as a journalist for Country Life Newspaper during high school, and soon started freelance writing at Queensland Newspapers which turned into Radio 4BK and finally Channel 10 Toowoomba in 1987.

My big break came later that year when I joined the Seven Network as a cadet Sports journalist, rising through the ranks as a Sportscaster and national sideline AFL commentator. I was also a feature reporter for the national Sportsworld program and later host and reporter of "The Motor Show” about cars.

Dream job

In 1996 I was appointed Sport Editor, Reporter, Presenter, NBL commentator and AFL boundary rider at Network Ten, also occasionally presenting Sports Tonight and national news bulletins. I anchored Sports Tonight’s 2002 Commonwealth Games and was also part of the Sydney Olympics team. Other events included the Lions historic AFL premierships, Bathurst 1000, Gold Coast Indy, Australian Golf, Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and more.

In 2004 I elevated to co-anchor of Ten News! It was here that my live location hosting skills were showcased, resulting in a Queensland media award (Clarion) for best live interview in 2009. It was a 9 minute live, unscripted ‘Walk down disaster lane’ sharing residents accounts of being caught up in the devastating 2008 Gap storms.

Full Circle 7

After 16 years at Ten, I returned to Seven to partner Sharyn Ghidella as co-anchor of Brisbane's top rating Seven News. I was even busier with live hosting and commentary, hitting the road to cover every major disaster in Queensland over the next 5 years. The Rio Olympics is a highlight, along with the Brisbane International tennis and 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Radio & Media

I have commentated AFL on radio for more than a decade with Triple M, Gold FM, the National Indigenous Radio Service (NIRS), Seven, I co-hosted a Saturday morning sports show with River 94.9 FM, was a weekly AFL guest with Mix FM on the Sunshine Coast, provided daily AFL reports on Southern Cross Regional Radio, as well as performing countless interview and guest host spots.

I have authored sport-themed columns for several publications, was Queensland AFL correspondent for the Age newspaper, partner in Media and Presentation business MASmedia, as well as working as a voice over artist, including a role in an animated series on the ABC, and numerous corporate voice overs.

Adventure

I love adventure, having completed long distance cycling , running and swim events for charity as well as twice completing the gruelling 96km non-stop Kokoda Challenge on the Gold Coast. I did the Kokoda Track in 2015 while shooting a documentary. It was an unforgettable experience.

Personal

Juls and I have been married for 25 years and have four beautiful boys. Jordan, Hamish, William and James. I’m a fitness enthusiast and enjoy running, cycling and gym. I also enjoys reading, photography (sunsets!) and family holidays to any beach where the weather is good. Our little family was featured on Channel 7’s Better Homes & Garden in 2014 because we are also repeat home renovators.

I'm also a strong supporter of a number of charities and believe in giving back, joining the board of Tangalooma Ecomarines in 2015, encouraging school kids about conservation in the community, an ambassador for The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, the Salvo's, PCYC, RSPCA, Vinnies CEO Sleepout and Philanthropy Queensland are organisations I remain involved with.
